When Johnny joined the army, all the hometown folks was proud;
They hung his picture at the grocery store;
Now the picture’s edged in black, ‘cause he won’t be coming back
And no one writes good songs about the war.

CHORUS

About the war … about the war …
Does anyone recall what it was for?
Send the kids off overseas, and they come home to rest in peace
And no one writes good songs about the war.

Everyone remembers Katy as the girl who fixed their cars;
She was gonna run the station when dad got old;
Now dad works the place alone since they sent Katy’s body home
And no one writes good songs about the war.

CHORUS

In the park, they’ve built a stone for all the kids that can’t come home;
It says we’re proud of them forever more;
They wrote the names real small, so they’d have room to list them all
And no one writes good songs about the war.

CHORUS

Repeat last line of chorus, then first line of first verse to end.

VERSE ONE:

Well I’m so sorry for the things I’ve done
And I’m so sorry that I had you on the run.
Now I just worry that you’ll never let me home
And I just worry that you’ll leave me on my own.

BRIDGE:

But I can change if you let me try.
I can hold on to your wings and fly.
I can re-arrange all the parts inside,
If you strip away all my useless pride.

CHORUS:

Just tell me, girl, what you want from me.
Tell me the way you want things to be.
My heart’s burnt out and this soul’s on fire,
But you can put it out cause you take me higher.

VERSE TWO:

I know full well that I let you down,
How you couldn’t show your face round town.
I went too many times to that wishing well.
I went over that line and I stepped in Hell.

BRIDGE:

Oh, my heart was black and my face was white.
I was always wrong, I wasn’t ever right.
I stepped out on that ledge every single night,
But when I look at you I can see my light.

CHORUS:

So tell me just what am I to do.
Tell me the way you need me to love you.
My heart’s burnt out and this soul’s on fire
But you can put it out cause you take me higher.

MIDDLE:

Baby, baby I know I’ve been bad.
I know I made you mad,
But if you leave me I’ll only be sad
Cos I can’t go on without you.
No, no.

VERSE THREE:

Well I’m so sorry for the things I’ve done
And I’m so sorry that I had you on the run.
Now I just worry that you’ll leave me on my own
And I just worry that you’ll never let me home.

FADE OUT:

Let me home.
Let me home.
I’m no good on my own,
So please just let me home.

MY HEART IS LIKE A PAWNSHOP

My heart is like a pawn shop
Where the empty shelves of mourning
Meet with calloused hands of loss
I trade for crumpled cash and some sad ticket stub
That I shove down in my pocket
Where it’s as worthless as a broken watch
My heart is like a pawn shop

Where gold chains and deadly weapons
Sad guitars and family jewels
Lie in wait behind glass counters
For mistakes by other fools
Where beneath that cruel florescent light
They’ll be compelled to take a shot
My heart is like a pawn shop

I have tasted of the Tree of Life A bitter fruit between my teeth I took a bite, and it wasn’t ripe I spit it out and I lost the seed

Now I wage bets against tomorrow
That rob the present of its breath
And carve warm and tender moments
Into cold ambivalence
So I can turn and run ‘way, quickly
From things I never dreamed I’d hock
My heart is like a pawn shop
My heart is like a pawn shop

I KNOW WHY THE POETS DRINK AND SMOKE

Well, I know why the poets drink and smoke
Shoot dope and die young
At least the poets used to
Now days you can’t count on poets much
I used to wanna run with them horses, now I don’t
Cause I can’t stand them begging for acceptance
When it’s forgiveness they should want
And me, I still like to feel a little pain when I bleed
And see every bone that’s broke
And taste some righteous anger in my mouth
When I’m all fresh out of hope.

Well, you see now it’s too damn late
Once you bend the truth to
Get your story straight
Face down at the feet of idols
In the shallows of your faith
Well I, I don’t think much
Of all the poets, all you poets these days.

I used to breathe the smoke ‘round their campfires
Now I don’t
Cause you gotta write like you’re already dead
But they’re afraid to so they won’t
And these days I wouldn’t know where to start LOOKING for a poet
If it was after 3 a.m. and
I was needing some simple clarification
About the fix our world was in.

No doubt they’re all fast asleep
So safe and warm between the sheets
The rent and the light bill paid
A smile scribbled across their face
Man, I don’t think too much
Of all the poets of all the poets these day

Well, I don’t think too much
No, I really don’t think too much
No I don’t think too much
Of all the poets these days

I know why the poets used to drink and smoke
And shoot all that dope and then die young
At least the poets used to
Now days, you just can’t count on poets much.

All for Her

I can hear the voices from the sandy roads
I can see the wounded when my eyes are closed
But when I think of her then I know I’m right
To do what I have done on this winter’s night, on this winter’s night

See what I do-oo-oo is all for her, for her
What I do-oo-oo is all for her

All alone in mountains all so very dark
Washing down a river, water leaves no mark
Tonight I’ll be sleeping only in my head
Gotta get to freedom
freedom, freedom, freedom,
freedom is my bed

See what I do-oo-oo is all for her, for her
What I do-oo-oo is all for her

Run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run
I’m on the run
Run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run
Run, run, run, run, run, run, run
I’m on the run

And when I am so tired, she’ll be on my mind
Her sweet loving face pushing me to climb
She’s across the border, waiting on her man
She’s across the border, just like we planned, just like we planned

See what I do-oo-oo is all for her, for her
What I do-oo-oo is all for her

See what I do-oo-oo is all for her, for her
What I do-oo-oo is all for her
It’s all for her
It’s all for her
All for her

I saw the last giraffe tonight
leaning on a leafless tree
beside the bed of a poisoned river
downstream from a poisonous factory
his neck drooped almost to the ground
and the ground it was covered in bone
one last tired time his head swiveled around
then I watched his soft eyes close

I think it’s time to play taps
I hear somebody playing taps

I saw the last wild dolphin today
swimming in a dead gray sea
with a 6-pack ring wrapped around his tail
disposable razors between his teeth
somebody snapped his photograph
somebody else threw him a fish
he leaped at the boat like a killer whale
I never saw no dolphin acting like this

I think it’s time to play taps
I hear somebody playing taps

I saw the last third-grader today
the only eight-year-old under our sun
after satellite waves and cellphones
felled his classmates one by one
by time we shut down the transmitters
the damage had already been done
he said, “I don’t wanna be here all alone
you fucking grownups are just no fun.”

I think it’s time to play taps
I hear somebody playing taps

The Men of New Jersey wore feathers and hide
And were ever content to be breathing.
The woment were workers and the children ran free,
And not one had a thought to be leaving.
But we can buy you with buttons; we can buy you with beads;
We can buy the land from under your feet.
So the Men of New Jersey were induced to move on
And the land took for ploughing and seeding.

I was born in full view of the street where I grew,
And already the traffic was increasing.
But we played in the road when the weather was fine,
And it seemed that the sun was unceasing.
But the buttons and beads, they were waiting for me
At the hand of the banker and the builder;
And as rain soaked the ground, with one last look around,
We left, with our pieces of silver.

The child at my knee was singing to me
Of his dreams and the world all around him:
Of princes and kings and all kinds of things – His voice through the morning was sounding.
But as darkness came down and the evening grew cool
He looked up and then murmured to me,
Oh, I wish I could have all the stars in the sky:
They look just like buttons and beads.

And everyone knows, wherever you go,
It all comes down to buttons and beads.

Babies In These Mountains by Tom Neilson

Grandfather lost his leg in the Leslie County mines
My uncle Sam had a coal tattoo on his cheek bone for all time
All of us been branded in our bones, our skin, & lungs
But we’re proud to be coal miners in these mountains where we’re from.

Then over in Knott County, they blew off a mountain top
The redbuds gone forever & the running water stopped.
We’ve lost 100,000 acres, as our mountains are blown away
Water runnin red as blood from toxic sludge decay

Little Jeremy Davidson with dreams inside his head
Had a boulder blown off a mountaintop crush him in his bed.
Company dug up the coffin of Bidge Ritchie’s infant son
Pitched him down the mountain side into oblivion

Bush’s law says it’s ok to dump waste into our streams.
As smoke fills up the holler from Bill Caylor’s profit schemes.
Well I wonder if Bill Caylor ever had a place he loved
Then watch it disappear under a flood of tons of mud.

Jim Gooch of Kentucky is on the company dole.
& Obama in the white house likes to talk about clean coal
Over 40 years of presidents say strip mining is ok
But none of them ever had clean coal dig their home away.

We’ve made babies in these mountains, on our ancestral ground
Gone to church & slept in peace for generations on
Coal companies got their thugs, and cops, and politicians they own
We got families, farms, and history that make this holler home.

It ain’t easy to be saved
Forget the world n live grace
Anxiety rushes in to shake
My body, my soul, my spirit to wake
Losing faith in the blink of an eye
Slip in the mud like the prodigal son
Seeking meaning in the filth
This is how I live!

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

In my heart and in my mind
Are all the questions I can’t define
All the answers I can’t escape
Are in my lonely face
I am desperately seeking for a pearl
Amongst the swine that sermonize my world
Don’t do this and don’t do that
Is this really real

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

No I won’t lift my hands
With the slaves that sing and dance
Content to live in a promise land
Trading freedom for a slab

To build the pyramids again
And call it a place of worship
To praise the God of Egypt
Living happily as sheep

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

Di,di,di,di…

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

This is what I feel
This is how I feel
This is what is real
Dancing in the wilderness!

She turns around and walks away from you
And all you hear say is that she’s through
Your heart it aches and then it breaks in two
You wonder why she would be so cruel

Your sight grows dim
Your blood runs cold
Your head it spins out of control

Love’s making you change
Letting you know
You got to let go

She’s got to be free
You got to see
You got to let go

You try so hard to hold back the tear
But in your mind you know she’s made it clear
Your heart it aches and then it breaks in two
You wonder if all this is really true

Your sight grows dim
Your blood runs cold
Your head it spins out of control

Love’s making you change
Letting you know
You got to let go

She’s got to be free
You got to see
You got to let go

(SONG FOR GILES)

Some, when born into this world
have more than their fair share
of all the looks and talents;
it seems they have no cares.

With your bright, bright eyes
and beaming smile
your road seemed easy to run;
but no one thought, no one saw
the tragedy to come.
For a toll-man he stood in your way
and lowered his gate:
you knew not how to pay his fees – and life – would not wait.

So who pays,
who pays,
who pays his fees?
Well, I’ll pay
and you will pay – we’ll all pay the fees.

And when the road leads nowhere,
and cold rain’s coming down;
you can’t take another step
and it feels like you may (will) drown;
then you turn to family
and the arms of loving friends
who’ll see you through adversity
to a bright day in the end.

And when the toll-gate man
he holds out his hand
it’s part of his hard task;
and if you can’t pay, or will not pay
then he’ll – not let you past:

So, who pays,
who pays,
who pays his fees?
Well, I’ll pay
and you will pay – we’ll all pay the fees.

And when the road leads to nowhere,
and the cold rain’s coming down,
you just can’t take another step
and it feels like you may drown;
so it’s then you turn to family
and the arms of loving friends
who’ll see you through adversity
to a bright day in the end:
to a bright day in —- the end.

We’re All Gonna Be There When She Dies
Words & music by Neal Fox

verse 1.
She was young – she was ready
And her future seemed so bright
But a long road she traveled
Nothing changes overnight
And her spirit, she’s forgotten
Burried deep within her lies
And we’re all gonna be there when she dies

2.
When she was young, she was freedom
There was justice on her mind
There was truth, there was beauty
There was hope for all mankind
Now her darkness is showing
And we should not act surprised
That we’re all gonna be there when she dies

bridge

But didn’t we all forsake her
And take her for common ground?
And didn’t we use the best she had
And take everything we found? It’s a bad time to say it
And it hits between the eyes
But we’re all gonna be there when she dies

3.
And we look into the future
And forget about the past
We were young and we were foolish
Thought the things we had would last
But the dim light of freedom
Had the seeds of its demise
And we’re all gonna be there when she dies

(bridge)

4.
Now she’s lost in the jungle
Though she tries to carryon
And the wise may try to find her
And the fools won’t know she’s gone
And to those who sit and wonder
Why so few have heard the cries
We’re all gonna be there when she dies

bridge

But didn’t we all forsake her
And take her for common ground?
And didn’t we use the best she had
And take everything we found?
And it hurts me to say it
And it hits between the eyes
But we’re all gonna be there when she dies

You think you look good but you’re a mess,
Pretend to me with a big fat kiss,
Alright but in the meantime the sky is pouring rain.
Drowning me and everybody in your naked see through lies,
How can you say you sympathise then begin to cry,
When you make another lie,
I say:

Chorus

I don’t believe in you,
I don’t believe what you say,
I don’t believe that you care,
You just make me despair.

I can see it in your eye you say that you care,
While you plot betrayal, words in the air,
Are you really so naïve that you don’t believe,
How you’ve gone and made me bleed.
Well please don’t smile then talk to me,
Or patronise it makes me seethe,
You carry on the way that you live,
Watch your step, you just might trip,
I say:

Chorus

I don’t believe in you,
I don’t believe what you say,
I don’t believe that you care,
You just make me despair.

The Ballad of June Bug Lee

She sits on the bench and watches the sun go down
When it gets real late, time to wander around
She had a life once that was pure and clean
Now it’s all over for June Bug Lee

There’s no one there to help her, no one gives a damn
For the chance to start over she’d give her right hand
Down at the courthouse, they just won’t see
So, now it’s all over for June Bug Lee.

One day we had it all, in one day it went away
They gave us a check so we bought that SUV
He took off as soon as things got bad
Dreams disappeared into the ether

She fights the bank, she fights the law, and she hunkers down
She don’t wanna let them run her out of her own house
She never asked for help, she knows nothing is free
And now it’s all over for June Bug Lee

She don’t answer but it rings all day..
She tried everything to keep the wolves at bay
There’s no one to rely on, with a mortgage to pay
She wants to disappear into the ether

With the little boy and girl she can’t just walk away
She’d do any job, just for the pay
She remembers what they told her she could be
But now that’s all over for Ms. June Bug Lee.
Now it’s over Ms. June Bug Lee.

Packs up the car for a midnight ride
Let’s loose the cat and shuts out the light
This is not the way she wanted it to be
Kids get in the car in their jammies

It’s all over for June Bug Lee
Can’t pay the bills so she must flee
It’s all over for June Bug Lee
They told us we could have it if we want it that badly.

It’s all over for Ms. June Bug Lee
We’ll find a parking space and then we’ll see..

June Bug Lee.

It seams that this world may be crumbling,
and the trees are all bowing down,
with iron boots upon their backbones,
pressing them into the ground,
But faith and hope with bring them round.

Speak your words with virtue
to enlighten the minds of our foes.
Seeing is believing so show them,
leave the smoke and fire to throws,
but courage and strength will bring them round.

I’ve spoke to and old man crying,
his sullen eyes fading away.
“You best be wise the world is drowning
in a boiling sea,
We all must pray.
We all must pray.
We all must pray.

A boy stands tall
and he’s smiling,
for an honest heart
will know no shame.

“Give me love!” he cries
to the sun baked earth,
“lets end this hurt,
lets mend this divide.

We shall endure
against the coming tide.
This passion we’ve found,
we will not hide.

I’ll bring them round.
I’ll bring them round.
from the golden peaks
to the ocean sound.
From stricken cities
to forgotten towns

I’ll bring them round,
oh yes, I’ll bring them round.

I respect these sights I’ve seen,
To go untouched is just obscene.
Confidence and vision to brave the storm.
From the dusty soil we’ll be reborn.

I’ll bring them round.
I’ll bring them round
from the golden peaks
to the ocean sound.

HOW MANY MORE?

How many more children must die?
Just who will answer us why?
Those in state do not know
Where the cold and the hungry will go
Will no one relent?
Can’t they be content
Just living in Peace
Then life might increase
Perhaps without knowing
Right there in the growing
We will start showing our love

How Many more soldiers will kill
Innocent blood let them spill
Bravely they follow command
For a cause or control of some land
It’s sad but it’s true
And what can we do?
Do we just pretend
It will come to an end?
But the start and the ending
The bringing and sending
It all is depending on you

How many more mothers will cry
Salt tears kiss children goodbye
Wrapped in starvations cloak
While the rich drink champagne as they joke
Take rice in your hand
Can you understand
The hungry ones need
In place of your greed?
Give birth to a new day
It will light up a new way
We can start showing our love.

How Many More days? ….How Many More Years…
How Many More Heartaches…How Many More Fears

Now is the time for honesty unity sympathy
Time to promote more charity empathy harmony
Eliminate illiteracy poverty slavery
Man’s inhumanity to Man
Now is the time to see progress make a break from distress
Time now to harness usefulness willingness eagerness
Help everyone to do his best raise themselves from the mess
Man’s inhumanity to Man!!

Those you chose to lead each known race and creed
Those who hoard the seed never hear the plea
Driven by their greed they will pay no heed
So who’s left to feed those who are in need

Now is the time to reap and sow mines to dig crops to grow
Time to divide the goods and spoils beef and grain gold and oil
End all the beaurocratic show penalties pain and woe
Man’s inhumanity to Man!
Now is the time to cultivate compensate educate
Time we tried to alleviate liberate from this state
Don’t accept prolonged debate hesitate it’s too late
Man’s inhumanity to Man!

Why are we building fences
Why are we building walls
There’s been too little time for laughing
Now what’s mine’s no longer yours
ANd we sleep not touching with a space
Much bigger than it ever was before

You keep quiet far too often
When you speak you criticise
There used to be a time for talking
And a softness in your eyes
Now there’s a cold light living there
I’m finding you so hard to recognise

CHORUS

SO come on lets just have it out
You need to tell me it’s worth saving
Maybe there’s a way to try
SOme sort of rearranging
Or maybe all these years together
We were only ever telling lies

We’ve been struggling with shadows
Where there used to be some light
We’ve been drowning and not waving
We can’t seem to get it right
And somewhere there’s a dying flame We’re trying just too hard to reignite

CHORUS

When little Jonny moved to town in September of ‘82
He found that country living lacked the excitement that he knew
But jonny kicked up quite a fuss on the first day of his school
He rode up on a bicycle breaking every rule

With spokes of flaming silver and a phoenix at the helm
Jonnys blood red bicycle turned heads across the town
And none more so than Mary’s a daughter of a farm
Who dreamt that one day Jonny would take her by the arm

She dreamt of chasing open roads, across valleys and beyond
But like a fox caught in a snare, she was tied down to the land

And as the years they faded a friendship sure did shine And Jonnys love for travelling bought him a Vespa ’69 So he asked young mary to climb aboard, beyond what the law would allow And he took her up to Dunmail Raise and he asked her to make him proud

She dreamt of chasing open roads, across valleys and beyond
But like a fox caught in a snare, she was tied down to the land

They spent the next years dreaming of following the sun
While Jonny worked both day and night to save up enough funds
And then one night in april when the air was hot and still
He drove up next to mary in a ’74 Coupe De Ville

She dreamt of chasing open roads, across valleys and beyond
But like a fox caught in a snare, she was tied down to the land

Thay talked of where they’d trave to ‘till all plans were in place
And Jonny told young Mary to go pack up her case
And after years of travelling they’d talk of settling down
Two kiddies in the garden and a trusty bassett hound

But then the night before they left when tempers reached a peak
Jonny polished off his scotch and headed for the beach
The coast road it is famous for claiming teenage hearts
And all that’s left for Mary is the key to Jonny’s car

She dreamt of chasing open roads, across valleys and beyond,
But like a fox caught in a snare she was tied down to the land
He’s travelled up the open road, across valleys and beyond,
As Mary slowly walks off home, to tend to her fathers land

Far From Home Joseph Macheret, 18, Folk

Well there’s no place I’d rather go
If it’s far from home
Well that’s good enough for me
Can’t you see?

Well I don’t have a problem, with the house
It’s a strong one, can’t you tell?
But the bricks keep getting looser
Everytime they hear a yell

[Chorus] Just as far as I could possibly be Swimming in the most beautiful sea Come along, you’re coming with me Just as far as we could possibly be

Take me up into the mountains
I want to go to the top
And keep going and going
And never stop

Might as well be the Mariana
To take my breath today
Swimming deeper and deeper
Not gonna turn away

[Chorus]

Now it’s just me and you
Somewhere it doesn’t matter
And that’s when I realize
You’re all I need

Sometimes when life is rough you may need a helping hand,
because you’re (just) not tough enough
to get there on your own;
then you may look for an answer,
and you may seek support
from some unseen power
to guide you in your thoughts.

Now, there are poets and prophets
but that’s all there are:
there is no God –
so don’t take me that far.
There is no Power –
apart from your own.
There is no God –
just – the unknown.

Now all your poets and prophets
you can hear and read;
listen to their wisdom –
choose to follow their creed:
but some ultimate being
that you can’t see or feel
may simply destroy you —
when you find they’re not real:

Poets and prophets,
that’s all there are:
without their insight
then you won’t travel far:
your heart will be empty –
your eyes would be blind:
life have no meaning –
with nothing – to find.
And those poets and prophets
they speak with their souls;
it is their philosophies
we should take as our goals –
not some worthless promise
of a better life
after you’re dead and have lived
through the strife.

Poets and prophets,
that’s all there are:
without their insight
you won’t travel far:
your heart will be empty –
your eyes would be blind:
life have no meaning –
with nothing – to find.

And if the poets and prophets
are not what you need,
then whose other words
are you going to heed?
If not politicians
nor newspapermen —
do you trust your own judgement
to lead you to Zen? (heaven)
Do you trust your own judgement —
to lead you —- to Zen?

Poets and prophets,
that’s all there are:
without their insight
you won’t travel far:
your heart will be empty –
your eyes would be blind:
life have no meaning –
with nothing to find.
(Repeat and fade)

I know the righteous and the holy go straight up to heaven when they die
But what about the rest of us, does God love us that much

No one would make the mistake of calling me a perfect man
But I pray everyday and I’m doing the best I can

There’s men of the cloth out there claiming absolution
We gotta keep God out of schools ‘cuz it’s against the constitution

Al Qaida’s hiding out in caves
The West Bank was bombed again today
What they say and do is such a contradiction
It’s almost enough to make you lose your religion

Every Sunday morning there’s a preacher on the TV holding out his hand
Send your love gift in and you’ll be a better man

I’ll bet he lives in a million dollar mansion and he drives a Mercedes Benz
While I’m always workin’ overtime and I’m just barely getting by

The church used to be a house of prayer now it’s more like a corporation
Barely a penny goes to help a child from your dollar donation

They’re sure they’re gonna save the world
One soul at a time
But the path to hell is paved with good intentions
It’s almost enough to make you lose your religion

We’re a nation under siege
Without justice there’s no peace
It’s time for us to make some hard decisions
It’s almost enough to make you lose your religion
It’s almost enough to make you lose your religion

we are living in the years when fear is the philosophy
tiny, scared and stupid too, you sell your story to the news
he would, she would, we would, they would kick it over, start again
and it’s happened once, and once again they steal the flame and sell it back
to you before you have a chance to set a match to all that tinder
waiting to explode into a million flaming voices saying:

I don’t want this any more I thought we could cooperate
but please don’t advertise my life as if it’s something I could buy, like
winners, losers, mover, shakers – pathological polarity
it’s ethic for beginners, simplified to serve a cause, but there’s
no-one left to fight today except the mercenaries hired
for the job then thrown away; what rises up and shakes a fist
is met by dull, expensive force and excellent technology

that should be serving millions not just those who have the influence
to buy their way above the dangers of a floating world, where the
water seeks it’s level, and it’s level is above our heads
can you swim? I hope so, I learned yesterday; relax and drift away…
don’t you worry now, because we’ll do this anyway, we are
inevitable as the river – find a level, flow into it

no-one tells you you don’t have to do what you don’t want to do
maybe sometimes, but then only if it wasn’t sold or forced on you
if you ever get to this point just say ‘everything is meaningless’ and the
real thing is the real thing, no – it really is this time because it’s
you and me and he and she – the dwellers on the threshold have all
come to term and all we have to do is to step over…

TAKE YOUR TIME
For Meredith and Aloé

Take your time in turning pages
The chapters only shorten as you grow
Your story will be written through the ages
But turn down the corners as you go
Questions from the past will hold the answer
To what you will become but even though
(You may) Take your time in turning pages
The words are soon forgotten heaven knows

Take your time in turning corners
The road behind you stretches far ahead
Horizons may give reason to the mourners
And time will wait for no-one, so it’s said
But the miles that lie beyond are worth the wand’ring
Though through tears at times your pathway may have led
So, take your time in turning corners
With a pebble marking every step you tread

Pont: You alone must make the changes You alone will bear the scar You must never feel the need to hurry There’s time to find out who you really are

Take your time in growing older
Spare the child inside a last denial
Feel the summer sun still warm upon your shoulder
Autumn’s chill is waiting to beguile
Seasons only serve to mark the longing
For years of younger dreams so rest a while
Take your time in growing older
And forever keep that sunshine in your smile

Take me, somewhere other than here
I can’t take it anymore.
Hold me, this thrill’s leading to fear, here,
Don’t put me through this one more time

The sun has come and gone,
And I’m still here alone
The look on your face
Defines a brand new intention

Take me, somewhere other than here
Put your foot down to the floor
Hold on, a saviour might appear, here
Hold your breath but take your time now

The sun has come and gone
And I’ve been here too long
The look on your face
Defines a brand new direction

With this conclusion,
I feel no confusion
With this idea,
My fears disappear
With this direction,
I feel no affection
But now I see this victory was never mine,
Somehow

The sun has come and gone
And I’m still here alone
The look on your face
Defines a brand new intention

Somewhere there’s a song that’ll get me out of this mess
Somewhere there’s a dream that was good enough for the rest
Somewhere there’s a God out there who can see how we’re trying
Somewhere there’s a song that can keep me from crying.

Somewhere there’s a place where the pendulum don’t swing
Somewhere there’s a country where greed is not king
Somewhere people live without this weight upon their chest
Somewhere there’s a place where together we can rest.

Sometimes I can plainly see why things must be this way
Sometimes it’s not clear to me why we choose to live another day.

Somewhere there’s a sign that’ll point me the right way
Somewhere a mother’s voice is softly whispering, “It’s okay.”
Somewhere there’s a reason that’ll make me wanna stay
Somewhere there’s a sign I missed along the way.

Sometimes I can plainly see why things must be this way
Sometimes it’s not clear to me why we choose to live another day.

Somewhere there’s a song that’ll bring the light of day
Somewhere there’s a second chance, somewhere another way
Somewhere there’s a shining star, but tonight it’s out of sight
Somewhere there’s a song that’ll get me through this night.

NWO Song

Population discrimination
World reduction
Mass corruption
Elitist powers
This is your hour
Media liars
Spread your desires

Don’t tell me that nothing’s wrong
I know what’s going on

Point the finger
at the New World order
world based on
greed and disorder
surveillance cameras
And open boarders
This whole world
is out of order

Where are the weapons
of mass destruction
more deceptions
of your construction
RFID’s and satellite tracking
big corporations
what are you backing

I remember a world so free
Don’t try and take it from me
No!

Point the finger
at the New World order
world based on
greed and disorder
surveillance cameras
And open boarders
This whole world
is out of order

Don’t tell me that nothing’s wrong
I know what’s going on

I know what’s going on!

If I could live my life at sea
I’d spend my days in mutiny
Rising up when ‘ere I pleased

No land or lord could hinder me
as I make way across the seas
free from tyranny and toil

I’d cast away both church and crown
I’d let their lies and finery drown
the thieves have cost this world its peace

The ways of men are wearisome
Too many heed the pipe and drum
and war on for the rich and royal

Away, away, away she goes
away, away far from these woes
the crowded quay slips from view
the sooty sky slowly clears to blue

I search for treasures buried deep
beneath the waves of restless sleep
I plunder every hope I find

And when my spirit fills with ease
I’ll know I’ve won my liberty
If I could live my life at sea

Away, away, away she goes
away, away far from these woes
A salty mist fills the wind
the ocean’s edge stretches wide ahead

Away, away, away she goes
away, away far from these woes

He puts his hat back on and walks right out the door
He don’t really know just what he’s fighting for
He says it’s for the pride and to make his country proud
That’s how he gets by ‘cause real men don’t cry

He pulls the trigger and watches him die
That’s what guns are for, that’s what wars are for
And the voices inside
Tell him it’s gonna be allright
Because they deserve this, right?
Then he shouts to the sky
One more day in hell
One more day alive

When the letters come
They all say the same
I’m doing fine out here
But things are gonna change
He’s broken up inside
But he knows that he must stay
‘Cause on the day he left
He gave himself away

He pulls the trigger and watches him die
That’s what guns are for, that’s what wars are for
And the voices inside
Tell him it’s gonna be allright
Because they deserve to die
Then he shouts to the sky
One more day in hell
One more day alive

Then when he gets home
He won’t know what to say
‘Cause the love inside him died
When he put them in their graves

Then he shouts to the sky
One more day in hell
One more day alive

Just like the moon rising over the sea I’m caught in the clouds and held underneath She runs like the tide across the beach Fading the footprints where we’d meet In between the starlit divide Without a throat to swallow my pride Watching the thief and the girl of my dreams Many miles from where they’ll find me
Just like the moon rising over the sea Far from the heavens and the Earth underneath Reduced to a breeze just to blow by her feet A shiver down her spine or a change in the heat In between the starlit divide She’s shining bright his blushing bride And I’ll hang with a half-hearted glow When I disappeared, well, I thought that you’d know

Just like the moon rising over the sea We’d waltz right across that universal beat until my end at the hands of a thief Blood soaked footprints where we’d meet In between the Starlit divide Where I met your man and his much darker side Reduced to an echo, just a bump in the night A spectator sport ‘til I get right

Did you see the bird on the beach?
Covered in oil
Did you see the boy with the gun?
Standing in the street.
Did you hide your eyes turn away?
Can’t face the facts – not today?

What about the man in the tank?
Shelling our town
What about you’re ivory charms?
Your elephants dead.
What action did you take today?
Not very much I hate to say.

My Conscience (3)

Have you thought about the refugees?
Fleeing their homes
Have you thought about the whales?
Slaughtered at sea
Have you done anything at all?
Protect them all, protect them all.

Have you done anything at all?
Protect them all, protect them all.
Protect them all, protect them all.

Where are you going my blue eyed son?
I’ve got some treats, would you like to buy some?
I can make you run faster help you have fun,
make fiery red dragons come out of the sun.
‘Cos I’m the Tuck-Shop man …

Where are you going my brown eyed girl?
With your pig tails and ribbons, do you need a new world?
Well bring me your worries, your doubts and your fears,
then take some of these and they’ll all disappear,
‘Cos I’m the Tuck-Shop man …

But don’t tell your mummy, grandma or dad,
they might think I’m naughty, wicked or bad,
but I’m just an outcast that’s misunderstood,
and I’ll find my way back to their hearts through their blood
Cos I’m the Tuck-Shop man …

Hell cannot hold me I’ve come back again,
Hard bucks and fear they’re the name of my game.
And I’ve been called a flase knight, Lucifer too,
Now I’m the Tuck-Shop man and I’m here to serve you
‘Cos I’m the Tuck-Shop man …

Now I’m into their bodies, their bones and their veins,
I give them false pleasure that ends in real pain.
And they’re not thinking nothing’ their thoughts are all on loan,
Cos I’m the Tuck-Shop man …

Danny doesn’t play here anymore,
The beggars got him fixed they’ve got to make their score.
He played real good but he stood his ground,
Now he doesn’t even make a sound.
Danny doesn’t play here anymore.

He was just a kid with songs to sing,
with voice that could cry and ring.
He got the smash and the nuggets too,
but Danny boy they’re watching you.
They’ve got their eye on you.
He played a worn out steel guitar,
wanted to be a star.
Thought he was the subway king,
but he doesn’t really know a thing.
He was just a kid with songs to sing.

But Danny, Danny don’t tell the law,
I tell you there’s a whole lot more,
than a guy just beggin’ on the street,
he’s got a man to meet
and things ain’t lookin’ sweet.
Danny boy you’re going to feel the heat.

They pushed you around they roughed you up,
but it wasn’t quite enough.
Danny, Danny don’t stand your ground,
those guys weren’t messing around.
They were the worst in town.

Back in time,
When love was young,
Lying in the sun,
Our bodies twined,
Like twisting vines,
Concealed in bushes,
The river rushes,
It’s song sublime,
Of passioned rhyme
And you say …

Dreams and hopes and wishes,
Dart like little fishes,
Slipping through our fingers,
Fleeting thoughts that linger,
Father deeds that yet to come.

Side by side,
We drift in sleep,
In grasses sweet,
The river flows
Your breathing slows,
I watch your face,
In shadowed space,
Behind your eyes,
There are no lies,
Just signs that say …

Dreams and hopes and wishes,
Dart like little fishes,
Slipping through our fingers,
Fleeting thoughts that linger,
Father deeds that yet to come.

Time moves on,
The wind blows cold,
Your eyes grow old,
Our bodies stiffen,
No longer quicken,
The river waits,
A crossing gate,
But I still find,
That in my mind,
You still say …

Dreams and hopes and wishes,
Dart like little fishes,
Slipping through our fingers,
Fleeting thoughts that linger,
Father deeds that yet to come.

Strange paradox, this species called man.
So much love in his heart, but so much blood on his hands.
He don’t know what to do today,
he just digs up the Mother to throw her away.

Strange paradox, this species called man.
So much love in his heart, but so much blood on his hands
He don’t know what to do today,
Better learn how to love before he blows it all away.

Strange paradox this species called man.
He’s got gold in his heart, got so much blood on his hands.
He don’t know what to do today.
Maybe he should just love before he blows it all away.

Strange paradise this species called man.
So much gold in his heart, so much love in his hands.
He must learn to love today.
He can change the world, make it play.

Strange paradox this species called man.
So much gold in his heart, so much love in his hands.
He can learn how to love today.
Save the planet before he blows it away. Strange paradise.

Silently
When Soul becomes a test you’ll lose
Sleep Now Sleep
We are Free
Tired Now my Stomache aches
Master of my own poor taste
When Soul becomes a test you’ll lose the time, you’ll lose your mind
When Soul becomes a test you’ll lose the time, you’ll lose your mind
If Jesus Speaks to Everyone then Everyone is God

I’ll Lie to you
I’ll make you cry I’ll make you lose your mind

In Simple Rest, you’ll pass the test
The test is all a lie

I’ll Smile now to hide this frown the Devils eyes are mine

THE HANGING

Well I heard about the hanging this morning
and I rode on in to town
There were gallows nailed up on the square
and a big crowd gathered all around
Selling post cards and cotton candy
crucifixes and American flags
A woman who wept at the gallows steps
held a little bird in her hands
And she said….

I’m not crying for him;
I don’t even know his name
What he done was a sin against God
to be reckoned come Judgment Day
I’m crying for what we’ve be-come,
still turning that flesh to dust
I’m not crying over him
I’m crying about us

Well the prisoner climbed the gallows steps
You could feel the excitement of the crowd
As the noose was lowered down over his head
and his face was covered with a shroud
The woman held the little bird to her breast
as the order rang loud and clear
I heard the crack as they snapped his neck
and the crowd let out a cheer

I’m not crying for him;
I don’t even know his name
What he done was a sin against God
to be reckoned come Judgment Day
I’m crying for what we’ve be-come,
still turning that flesh to dust
I’m not crying over him
I’m crying about us.

They cut him down and they hauled him off;
and the people, they all gone home
as the wind blew trash through the empty street
where the woman stood all alone
Then she knelt upon those gallows steps
as she bowed her head to pray
Then raised her hands above her head
and let the little bird fly away

I’m not crying over him;
I didn’t even know his name
What he done was a sin against God
to be reckoned come Judgment Day
I’m crying for what we’ve be-come,
still turning that flesh to dust
I’m not crying over him
I’m crying about us.

To whom it may concern
I just gotta let you know
There’s an evil plan taking place
To rid this world of love

You’re gonna have to rise someday
There’s got to be a better way
We haven’t got a whole lot of time
But in the end it’s gonna be just fine

You’re gonna have to rise someday
There’s got to be a better way
We haven’t got a whole lot of time
But in the end it’s gonna be just fine

I believe in strength in numbers
Sister, mother, brother, father
Don’t let those lizards run your lives
They’re just evil demons in disguise

You’re gonna have to rise someday
There’s got to be a better way
We haven’t got a whole lot of time
But in the end it’s gonna be just fine

To whom it may concern

The dock and the nettle
They grow in company
The one to heal the other’s hurt
And so all well may be

In hedge and ditch and waste-ground
The wild flowers do grow tall
And the dock and the nettle
Are not the least of all
For some may be more fragrant
And others thought more fair
But none more fast in fellowship
Than this familiar pair

We learn when we are children
When we feel the nettle’s sting
To seek the dock leaf close at hand
For the comfort it may bring
And so we see that nature
Though cruel, is also kind
And that pain and consolation
Are sometimes thus entwined

But now as I grow older
It troubles me in mind
My path fills up with nettles
While the dock is hard to find
The world is out of kilter
As madmen make the rules
And a vicious crew of pirates
Commands a ship of fools

Those who would be rulers
And makers of the law
Should turn their hands to healing
And not to cruel war
And those who would be wise
Should learn a better thing
To be a balm to those for whom
Life holds a bitter sting

Live With Your Lies

It’s day to day business
In your every day world
Spendin’ other people’s money
On another call girl

Flyin’ off to places
In your private jet
While people down on the ground
Are buried in debt

You’re a liar
A cheat
A con man
A thief
You’re living a life full of hate and deceit

Ruin abounds
Children weep
You just smile
Tell me how do you sleep

There’s no hell too hot
No vengeance too cold
To wish on you
For the lives you broke

Your soul is as empty
As the look in your eyes
Others have to live with the truth you told You’re the one who has to live with your lies

Who was the fool
The wise man the beggar or thief
Who rubbed his eyes
In disbelief

Persecution is its own reward
That’s the hope
But the rich man never pays the cost
Of what he owns

Merely stupid
Or truly wicked
The time will come
When you’ll reach the end

Whether rich or poor
One truth leaves no debt
The hangman is the devil
All’s the same in death

There’s no hell too hot
No vengeance too cold
To wish on you
For the lives you broke

Your soul is as empty
As the look in your eyes
Others have to live with the truth you told You’re the one who has to live with your lies
You’re a liar
A cheat
A con man
A thief
You’re living a life full of hate and deceit

Ruin abounds
Children weep
You just smile
Tell me how do you sleep

There’s no hell too hot
No vengeance too cold
To wish on you
For the lives you broke

Your soul is as empty
As the look in your eyes
Others have to live with the truth you told You’re the one who has to live with your lies

Oh, the wind and the ocean
The Sun and the Sea
Why are you laughing at me
I’m tired of moving
I just want to stay
Why are you running away
Don’t run away

CHORUS

And I’m tired of moving
Tired of waiting
For the right road
And no body knows
The right way home

The trees and their whispers
The birds and their song
Why won’t they let me sing along
I’ve traveled the country
I’ve traveled the coast
Now who do I love the most
Love the most

CHORUS

I loved a man
But I left him behind
How could I have been so blind
Time is a drifter
It travels alone
I think it’s time I went home
Going home

CHORUS

We’re the spoilt children of the west
Lost in our acquisitiveness
More and more means less and less
To the spoilt children of the west

We vote our politicians in
To give us more of everything
For money is our God and king
The only thing that matters
When we own one car we want two
We want everything brand new
Only the latest model will do
We take our luck for granted

Chorus

We make our guns and planes and bombs
Then when we’ve done we sell them on
The weak get murdered by the strong
And the poor get no justice
If we’re deprived of our toys
We stamp our feet and make a noise
Whilst someone else’s girls and boys
Are dying of starvation

Chorus

They toil in poverty those who
Are paid a pittance for what they do
The many exploited by the few
It’s the same old situation
In pity we may patronise
In ignorance we criticise
If we saw things through their eyes
We’d tell a different story

Chorus

We fly off on our holidays
To where the sun shines all day
Whilst half a mile across the bay
Are the slums of shanty town
It’s just the way things are we say
That’s how the world is today
It’s always going to be that way
So why should we bother?

Chorus

by Beth Isbell

I don’t want to be un-American,
but I don’t want to be an American Idol (2x)

Politicians like to have their fun,
OPM and lots of guns,
Sell us peace now, but buy us war,
and I can’t take it anymore!

I don’t want to be un-American,

My Daughter
by Jane Fallon

The nightmares don’t come often anymore; don’t wake up to cold sweats every night.
but I cannot forget the horrors that I met every murky, Mekong Delta morning light.
I know that you’ll do fine at Fort Jackson;
you’re strong and you’re smart and you’re tough.
But why can’t you see what you’re doing does to me?
I have had enough.
The jaws of war that lurk beneath the depths of hatred’s waters
took away my carefree youth, now they want my daughter.

I left you on the sidewalk at the airport,
dropped your bags, slammed my door and drove away.
And I know that you were hurt and you were angry
and I’m sorry for the things I couldn’t say.
I know that I should stand there at the window
and wave as the plane taxis away,
but I’d put that uniform back on though it might bleed me dry
if I could only make you stay.
The war machine that feeds on greed and serves up senseless slaughter
took away my carefree youth, now they want my daughter.

They stole years from my life, they blew my soul apart,
they ate away my peace of mind, now they want my heart;
now they want my daughter.

I fed you and clothed and I worked the daily grind
to show you that I loved you, never meant to be unkind.
But you don’t understand, I can see it in your eyes,
why I cannot take your hand and bid a fond goodbye.
It’s just I’m so damned angry, partially at you,
but mostly at this wicked world and the things it wants to do.
Do they have so many bombs and guns they can kill and mess up all our sons,
that they also need my lovely one?
Must they take my daughter?

Your wars are still histories
Of numbers who have died
Your politicians have stolen and lied
I’m sure that you have tried Chorus And we are the children born of the storm of tomorrow Born of the storm of tomorrow

Look around father see if you find
growing old is growing behind
For new thoughts are needed
To help guide mankind Chorus And we are the children born of the storm of tomorrow Born of the storm of tomorrow

You robber oil barons have sold this land short
Use gas just like water we were raised we were taught
The war in Arabia’s for democracy
But their black gold is all we will free Chorus And we are the children born of the storm of tomorrow Born of the storm of tomorrow

Bridge We are your daughters we are your sons You give the orders we carry the guns We the children will be the dead ones Chorus And we are the children born of the storm of tomorrow Born of the storm of tomorrow

I volunteered to defend our land
Now on the frontlines I don’t understand
My comrades are dying in a useless war
My survival is all I’m fighting for

Bridge We are your daughters we are your sons You give the orders we carry the guns We the children will be the dead ones Chorus And we are the children born of the storm of tomorrow Born of the storm of tomorrow

Do you wanna be a part of a war,
there’s many a conflict’s a mother for sure,
do you wanna be a part in a heavy duty game of chess, where peoples lives are sanctified by politicians greed,
For power for glory for want of history many are freed concessions agreed,
for the power of glory the want of history many bleed,
It’s too high a price to pay, too high, too high a price to pay, much too high, too high a price.
Do you wanna be a part in systematic cleansing of brotherhoods mending,
for the coming around of holocausts found in times gone by,
There’s Muslims fighting with Christians biting where people bleed for others greed in a land built with a common belief of life,
It’s too high a price to pay, too high, too high a price to pay, much too high, too high a price.
I see Muslims praying with Christians saying our hearts are as one joyously done,
these people believe greed is a sign of the coming around of times gone by,
don’t you really wanna leave those times gone by,
It’s too high a price to pay, too high, too high a price to pay, much too high a price.
There’s people who try to live as one, be part of a system they join in a union with many that marry,
merging on, merging on as one, so many times it’s done, their merging on, merging merging merging, merging on as one,
Wars too high a price to pay, too high, too high a price to pay, much too high, too high a price, too high, too high a price to pay, much too high, too high a price.

I’ve got two loves in my life
I love money and war
‘cos war makes money
and money makes war

I don’t care if you watched your mama die
held her hand and started to cry
I don’t care if you watched your daddy leave
pick up his gun and come to fight me

I’ve got two loves in my life
I love money and war
‘cos war makes money
and money makes war

If the purpose of your life is to change the world
and make it better for all the boys and girls
If the purpose of your life is to change the world
I will beat you down, i’ll beat you down, I’ll beat you down

I don’t care if you left your baby sister behind
married her to a man who said he’d be kind
I don’t care if you walked a year to get here
battered and broken and so full of fear

I’ve got two loves in my life
I love money and war
‘cos war makes money
and money makes war (X3)

CHORUS

SILVERSHINE
ON YOUR SNOW WHITE CLOUD
SILVERSHINE
THE WAY YOU POUR YOUR SOFT RAIN DOWN
SILVERSHINE
IN THE EASY BREEZE
SILVERSHINE
YOU MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A CLOWN

A WARRIOR AND A PRINCESS ALL THE SAME
LIGHTHESED AS A FEATHER
RAIN AND LIGHTNING GO TOGETHER

I TOUCH YOUR GLOWING FACE
PURPLE INK MOUTHS YOUR GRACE
FLYING TO FAR AWAY LANDS
I HOLD ON TO YOUR LOVING HANDS

WE ONLY MEET IN DREAMS
YOU TAKE AWAY MY FEARFUL TEARS

CHORUS

OUR ORANGE MOON’S DREAM OF LIGHT AND LOVE
LIVING ON IN DEEP BLUE STARRY SKIES
WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE

OVER THE SEAS OF LOVE
A MISTY LETTER HEAVEN SENT
I LONG SO MUCH FOR US TO BLEND
DO I REALLY TRULY BELIEVE

IN THE LIGHT AND IN THE MOON
I’LL WRITE YOU MY ANSWER SOON

CHORUS
+YOU MAKE ME LOOK LIKE CLOWN

Down an empty side street screaming
Is it real or is she dreaming
She looks away as if it seems
The fist around her wrist is not there

Pinned against the doorway shaking
The soldier in her face is shaking
With the thought of what he’s taking
Taking his revenge ‘cos she’s there

This is for my long lost daughter
This is for the endless slaughter
This is for what you ought to
Get for being you and being here

Slowly to the floor she stumbles
Blindly in the corner fumbles
In the darkness faintly mumbles
Where are you my darling baby Rosa

Don’t go whaling just go sailing
Enjoy the creatures of the sea
Don’t go whaling without saying
You will leave that might fish alone …
Under blue blue skies and stormy weather
In waters tepid warm or icy-cold n calm
To my co-earthdweller I wouldn’t wish no harm!
Yeah-ay x2 Repeat 1st 4 lines.

You can take a trip out to sea today
Any day like a sailor a mariner
On a frigate a Chinese junk or liner
Round the islands in the distant sea
Or a honey-moon voyage on a Carribean cruiser
But don’t you go whaling baby
If you wanna be with me!

Instead of hunting you can start wanting
More leisure more pleasure
Riding over the ocean-waves doing nothing else
But enjoying Neptune’s abundance
Collecting seashells in the sands!

Let the whales churn the waters
Together with their sons n daughters
Let them feed on planktons with serene delight
Don’t go after them and cause mayhem
Let them splash away with all their might
Display a beautiful sight for their beholders
Here away from the city
Away from the mountain peaks n boulders
This mammal majestic
Plough the waters ce magnifique
Looking busy doing nothing
Not just sitting pretty!
You will begin to ponder as you watch in awe n wonder ..
Under blue blue skies and stormy weather
In waters tepid warm or icy-cold n calm
To my co-earthdweller I wouldn’t wish no harm
Yeah-ay x2 Repeat 1st 4 lines x 2

See the purpose of their nature
As from this day you will come to say
There’s a reason for their being
So don’t go whaling baby just go sailing
In your yacht or catamaran
Enjoy your trip in the open sea
And let those might whales forever be!! Exit Instrumental

Dancing in December

V1
We had no shame
Dancing in December
In the freezing rain
With no scarves we felt the bite
Warmed up in the flames
Of soft and sparkling embers
Bared our hearts for days
In the hue of Christmas time

Chorus
But you’d be gone one year
You ran your fingers through my hair
Tried to dry the tears
That’s what lovers do

V2
We felt the pain
Devoted in December
You boarded a plane
That flew you towards demise
They had no shame
Fighting in December
Mortar fell like rain
From a desert purple sky

Chorus
You’d be gone one year
You ran your fingers through my hair
Tried to rest my fears
That’s what heroes do

V3
Still felt the same
In late September
When choosing her name
‘Cause that’s what families do
Alone we traveled home
Where I tucked her in your uniform
As I held her close
I wondered if you knew

V4
Tried to refrain
From folding your dress blues away
But I buried a bronze star
In a wounded purple heart
It could never redeem love
Or compensate the loss of you
Never gleam enough
For the child you never knew

Chorus
You would have loved her song
Lullabyed her fears away
Taught her to stand strong
That’s what fathers do

Tag
We knew no shame
Dancing in December
Mortar fell like rain
From deserted purple sky

Theres no use you defending what you’re intending
Y’see I understand, well you’re a businessman
You’ve got schedules and schemes and modern machines
I don’t matter to you unless I upset what you do

Well if the end justifies the means could those means not justify the end of those
Kind of businessmen

In human whirlpools of boys and girls schools
Though love cuts deeper, the stronger always hurts the weaker
So you still want to win. Then you’d better begin to be like them, those
Businessmen

What went wrong, did I stay in too long
And how can it be some kid now says to me
Theres no use you defending what you’re intending
Y’see I understand, well you’re just another businessman

In the course of time do I find that I’m
No better than another businessman
The end justifies the means
Could the means not justify then end of those kind of businessmen,

Just another you’re just another businessman

He cut me deeply
Like an earthquake
I never knew what was coming
But he smoked my heart completely
He made confusion on my memory
I disguise the bruises and the tears
All the scars are the routes to my soul
Everytime I try to forgive and forget

He hit me and it felt like a glass
I’m broken in to million pieces
He hit me and everyday I take it
Says he’s sober and he loves me
He hit me and it felt like a glass
I’m broken but I’m not buried
He hit me and it felt like a glass

He cut me deeply
Like a hurricane
I never knew what was coming
But he damaged my heart completely
He always finds me someplace and takes me home
I could have never made him mad
And when I told him I’m with somebody

He hit me and it felt like a glass
I’m broken in to million pieces
He hit me and everyday I take it
Says he’s sober and he loves me
He hit me and it felt like a glass
I’m broken but I’m not buried
He hit me and it felt like a glass

I still remember the first and the last
He hit me and it felt like a glass
He hit me and he made me feel insecure
He hit me and I call the cops

He hit me and it felt like a glass
I’m broken in to million pieces
He hit me and everyday I take it
Says he’s sober and he loves me
He hit me and it felt like a glass
I’m broken but I’m not buried
He hit me and it felt like a glass

Says he’s sorry and he’s clean
But he hit me and it felt like a glass

The London docks are all closed down:
they were the heart of the east of town.
Cargoes have moved to Tilbury,
closer to – the grey North Sea.

The steamer’s whistle
is now but a ghostly sound
that echoes around
the silent side of town:
the giant crane stands as a lone sentry
over the deep berths
that now lie so empty.

So, it’s goodbye Albert and Victoria;
Limehouse and East India:
the Surrey Quays have no boats there,
and Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere.

Men have all
been given – their final cards:
no engines run now in the closed dockyards:
the empty warehouse – lies shuttered and bare;
just a lone watchman
he now works there.

So, it’s goodbye Albert and Victoria;
Limehouse and East India:
the Surrey Quays have no boats there,
and Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere.

There was a time
when sixty ships a day,
brought in their goods
and carried them away;
but the unions – they had a stranglehold
over what was moved
and what was sold.

So, it’s goodbye Albert and Victoria;
Limehouse and East India:
the Surrey Quays have no boats there,
and Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere:
and Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere:
and Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere:
and Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere:
and Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere:
Jamaica Road – she leads nowhere.

Where Has the Love Gone?

High above the world, just sittin on a cloud
I took a little trip there, ooh to try and figure things out
Cause I don’t feel safe in the streets, in the home, in the schools, what’s going on Lord
What’s all this fighting for, huh

Mother, father, sister, brother
Butcher, Baker, Howdy Neighbor, Where has the love gone
Where has the love gone?

Johnny’s got a gun, say’s he’s going downtown
Well his buddies pissed him off, emm he’s gonna shoot a few rounds
But it don’t make sense Johnny no when you act this way
Now it’s life or death, when it was just a bad day

Mother, father, sister, brother
Butcher, Baker, Howdy Neighbor, Where has the love gone
Where has the love gone?

Well I like it up here, sittin close to you Lord
Where I can look upon the earth below, and just see pretty greens and blue
It feels so safe, calm and cool I can feel my spirit soar lord
Where there’s no hate no crime no war, huh

Mother, father, sister, brother
Butcher, Baker, Howdy Neighbor, Where has the love gone
Where has the love gone?

Mother, father, sister, brother
Butcher, Baker, Howdy Neighbor, Where has the love gone
Where has the love gone?

This song is an apology
for you from me
for all the things that i have done
when i was dumb and young

‘cause when i look into my memory
i am filled with nothing but pain
and when i ask who is my enemy
i am filled with nothing but shame

because the answer is my name

so i apologize
for making you cry
i apologize
for telling you lies
i apologize
for all the pain i caused inside
and if it’s any consolation
there’s a lot of pain in my mind
and that is why
i must apologize

the thing i’ve come to realize
as i apologize
is how i have
changed inside
‘cause now i got integrity
and that’s what lets me see
the love that is
in your eyes
a love i used to deny
and that is why i
apologize

so i apologize
for making you cry
i apologize
for telling you lies
i apologize
for all the pain i caused inside
you can say there’s retribution
‘cause there’s a lot of pain in my mind
and that is why
i must apologize

and that is why i
must apologize

Have you ever seen the moon smiling
Or the sun crying through the tears of the rain
Have you ever heard my heart beating
Till you think it won’t stop but it does
Then it goes again

Well if you’ve heard these things and
If you’ve felt these things
What more can I offer you than love?
Have you ever seen the stars in the sky
Looking at you and winking their eye
Suddenly the moon peeps out fro behind a tree
He says aha come look see me ahaaa

And the people stare as she walks by
Cos they see she’s got that look in her eye
It’s a thing It’s a thing called love.
And now I’ve seen the moon smiling
And the sun crying through the tears of the rain
And now I’ve heard my heart beating
Till you think it won’t stop but it does
Then it goes again

Well now you’ve felt these things
And now you’ve heard these things
What more can I offer you than love?

I’ll raise a little family, find some little job in some little town
Maybe Minnesota, or somewhere in New England settle down
And I’ll look up my old buddies, I’ll look up my old girlfriend
I’ll walk the streets of my old neighbourhood
I’ll wander through a forest, swim in sparkling waters
And everything will be as it should.

And when the war is over and I can get back to myself again
Yeah, when the war is over and I can get back to myself again.

See, we never had much money, I was a tough little kid, I didn’t care
But they wanted me to go to college so I signed up just to get me there
Now these people hate me, these people want to kill me
And there’s sick, starving children everywhere
These people they’re all strangers, their faces look familiar
I cannot sleep, I cannot breathe the air.

But when the war is over and I can get back to myself again
Yeah, when the war is over and I can get back to myself again.

Yeah, when this whole thing’s over I will not contemplate this filthy air
I will not let it haunt me, the winners and the losers, I won’t care
See the children are the losers, the mothers are the losers
The soldiers are the losers and the winners are the losers.

And when the war is over and I can get back to myself again
Yeah, when the war is over and I can get back to myself again
And I can get back to myself again
And I can get back to myself again …

Oh, baby boy
I can hardly feel you breathing
As you’re lying still between us in the night
So small are you in this world
And perhaps you’ll never know it
But you’re one good thing that we’ll do in this life.

Oh, baby boy
We’re entitled only to the air we breathe
And take only that which causes no one pain
And you’ll stand taller than I
Beneath a changing sky
That someday will burn red, someday will burn red, and …

Someday the world will call upon you
And tell you you must kill for God and country
And after all the words are said
All those who kill must feel the dread
Oh, baby boy
Sleep softly now but someday …

I may not be here when your sorrows need to mend
Here I am huddled in this fear
Of somehow knowing that too soon the path will end
If an endless night is filled with doubt
If you feel you’ve been abandoned
And the darkness seems to show you no way out …

Now I’m gonna tell you all you’ll ever
Need to know
Wherever you may go
Oh, baby boy, I love you so
Oh, baby boy, I love you so
Oh, baby boy, I love you so

Shaman, Shaman what can you say?
That hasn’t already been said to this day
Fire, wind and water consume and the earth just decays.
Shaman, what can you say?

Wiccan, Wiccan, what’s on your mind?
Nature’s forces have begun to unwind
Mother Earth’s in labor, no midwife she finds
So tell me Wiccan just what’s on your mind?

Pastor, Pastor who feeds your lambs?
The ones who’ve entrusted their faith to your hands
You preach, you teach, you breach God’s commands
Pastor who feeds your lambs?

And Rabbi, Rabbi where is the peace?
Ancient conflict refuses to cease
Eye for eye ends just leaves the blindness increased
Tell me Rabbi, where is the peace?

Father, Father how do you sleep?
Cardinal sins reveal you’ve no secrets left to keep
Paradise lost again and the Innocent weep
Tell me Father just how do you sleep?

Who guides the Hindu who guides the Sikh?
Sunni or Shiite, Beggar or Thief?
When the dogma & doctrines collide
It begs the question “Who Is On God’s Side?

Lessons from history when we gonna learn?
How much a Holy war costs in return
Beyond religious pretension we yearn
When we gonna learn?

ROUGH MUSIC•

I’m a roving man. I ply the waves from Bristol to Benin
from Boston Harbour to Barbados and back again

Side by side I sail and fight with brave and brazen men
Our bond is born of circumstance and the quest for rich fortune

I owe the scratches on my back to a captain drunk with power
His wrath bled all of loyalty and set the crew to sour

We bade our time with firm resolve to carry out the plot
Then one dark night every hand took to rolling shot
chorus
Ay O Ay O
Heed these sounds of righteous discontent
Ay O Ay O
We shall have proper recompense

Of all the women I have known I’m true to only one
To her I’ll bring these silver coins and silks of dark crimson

I’m a roving man. I ply the waves from Bristol to Benin
from Boston Harbour to Barbados and back again

  • when sailors were unhappy with they way they were being treated they would make noise at nighttime on the lower decks by rolling cannonballs (shot), banging iron objects together etc. These sounds are called rough music and were a warning to the captain and officers that the sailors’ discontent could turn to mutiny.

Sailors’ working conditions were often atrocious and a captain’s power grossly unfair and tyrannical.

Raised on our own, dont know why
waiting out the storm with a friend in mind
the city we’ll make by dawn if we left tonight
and they let us go and leave behind
they dont mean no harm they’re just tired
held you by the throat they can see your eyes
and we let them go and leave behind
and we let them go, dont know why

World on fire

The world’s on fire like Jimmy said
Speak your mind and you’ll end up dead
Who will save us from ourselves
Who’s gonna bomb us with our own damn shells

From Sudan to Afghanistan
From Iraq to the next one man
From Lebanon to Palestine
From Israel and on down the line

Well the gods of war will never stop
The world’s a whore and hates the crop
Turn your picket fence into a suicide bomber
You better learn to fear the genocide shop

From Christians to the New Islam
From Jews and how you all fight for god
From holy land to holy shit
Believe me they won’t ever quit

Cause there is no light is no good
You’re born to fight it’s in the books
It’s a tired song and a chorus blood
A rich mans suit and a poor mans flood

From New York down to New Orleans
From Britain and their dying dream
From California coast to coast
You can look for love but you’ll just find a ghost

The media spreads useless flare
On where to be and what to wear
While millions die from world neglect
You get a brand new car and a big fat check

While the world’s on fire like Jimmy said.

Ellis Island

all arrive on the shores of life from the belly of this water
from the wings of winds that pick us
one by soul, unique soul
but then we grow away from ourselves trying to prove how big we are we forgot that the only religion that should prevail is love love that summons up hope and humility your people are not better than mine
no flower in this garden of life is beyond another

“Immigrants? Dress them as leverets, to let our hunters train.” (Giancarlo Gentilini, Treviso’s mayor, November 1999). More than 22 million passengers and ship crew members entered the United States through Ellis Island and New York between 1892 and 1924. Information about each person was written down in ships’ passenger lists, known as “manifests”, used to “examine” immigrants upon arrival in the United States. According to http:/www.ellisisland.org, thousands of people whose surnames were Gentilini, Gentilin, Gentili or Gentile passed through Ellis Island at that time.
I know a Gentilini who lives in Sydney, Australia. She once told me: “Italy is a nice place, just to go on holiday! I am glad about my Friulian- Italian roots, but I am 100% Australian”.

2000 years of blood and hate
2000 years of give and take
in this life Im searching for
a world to live in peace and light
JFK is dead no more
freedoms scream broke down that wall
black and white can live as one
mans united kingdom come

chorus:

lets start out once again
building a world of peace
joining hands with each other
bring those hearts together
lets start out once again
building a world of peace
in the ocean of eternity
raging around the world
for you and me.

2000 years of wars and deals
2000 years of killing fields
then one voice shares its right
a loving message out of sight
Martin Luthor King lives on
and his light was never gone
mend those fields with open hands
hear the song of the angels band

chorus…

bridge:
so all you soldiers right now
put down your guns of envy and hate
and pick the flowers of peace
and sow the seeds of a new life
into a torn heart and stand up and shout
for a new beginning
for you
for your children
for this world
lets start out once again.

Autumn rain on the mountain,
falling like tears from Heaven.
Drifting like a beaded curtain,
across the face of Helvelynn.

Just a little crazy,
you and I no-longer young,
thinking that maybe,
we could touch the sun.

Winter snow on the mountain,
drifting like lace from Heaven.
A funeral veil that’s for certain,
covering dead Helvelynn.

Looking for some answers,
never knowing what to ask.
Weaving like two dancers,
through memories of the past.

Spring rain on the mountain,
soft as a sigh from Heaven.
Renewing life from a fountain,
growing green on Helvelynn.

Thinking about the years gone by,
always, wondering how come,
we’re still reaching for the sky,
trying to touch the sun.

Summer wind on the mountain,
blows warm the breath of heaven.
Blurs the years we’ve been counting,
passing on Helvelynn.

Still a little crazy,
no longer reaching for the skies,
shadowed by the mountain,
the answers in your eyes.

Autumn rain on the mountain,
falling like tears from Heaven.
Drifting like a beaded curtain,
across the face of Helvelynn.

Heavy time, stolen day
The bells have ceased their tolling
Empty rhyme, hanging grey
The cold of death is calling

Chorus:
See the fires are reddening
See strange winds are blasting
See whose flag is flying

Molten spire, flaming cross
The clocks have stopped their chiming
Forsaken priest, begs his stay
In morbid rites last miming

Drop the bomb, scorch the land
The Bush who burns was listening
God is great, Allah’s banned
Each one of us is dying

The West is fried, the East has gone
Embered babies screaming
Don’t ask now why the hour’s undone
It’s a madman’s sacred dreaming
